The old town is also the city’s flagship. Here you must not miss the Golden Roof. With 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles and its oriel decorated with frescoes and reliefs, it is famous far beyond the borders of Tyrol. Incidentally, it was built at the time of Emperor Maximilian I, one of the most enigmatic figures of the Habsburg dynasty and considered a pioneer of modern warfare.

In the north-west of the Innsbruck Hofburg you will find the Cathedral of St. Jacob. Its two high towers were built between 1717 and 1724. The magnificent interior of the cathedral is decorated with wonderful stuccoes and frescoes and gives a majestic impression. The high altar contains the image of Maria Hilf, painted in 1537, which is a must-see when sightseeing in Innsbruck.

The same applies to Ambras Castle, which lies above Innsbruck. Built between 1529 and 1595, it is of cultural and historical importance. Particularly impressive is the Spanish Hall with a length of 43 metres and its wooden coffered ceiling.
